About me ━━

I'm Oliver Puente, a digital strategist and brand identity designer with over 5 years of experience creating and developing innovative digital brands and products. I specialize in Branding and Web Design (UI/UX), and I hold certifications in Google Analytics, WordPress, and SEO. I'm deeply committed to continuous learning and dedicated to creating exceptional user experiences.

Since 2019, I have been leading as a Brand Designer and Creative Director at Dizalo, where I have designed and developed outstanding brand identities for companies and entrepreneurs. I coordinate design teams to ensure timely delivery of projects and develop modern and functional websites, counting among my clients well-known brands such as Quezalteca, Cementos Progreso and Venado.

To be honest, I just find it entertaining and makes me happy to solve problems.

I deeply believe that the totality of a person is not defined only by what they say they are, but by what they believe, think, do, like and aspire to. Because we are not words, we are actions, we are beliefs, we are thoughts, we are hobbies, we are the average of all our influences.

Let's get to know each other!

What would you like to know about me?

Thoughts

Throughout my life I have been exposed to multiple currents of philosophical thought that have influenced the way I acted. I really have many beliefs that mark how I lead my life and help me live better. I share with you the ones that for me have been the most relevant:

Stoicism

"There is only one way to achieve happiness and that is to stop worrying about things that are beyond our power or our will." (Epictetus)

When I was little, somehow a book came into my hands with the teachings of Epictetus, an ancient Stoic philosopher who went from being a slave to earning his freedom to teach his philosophy and later his teachings would be used to educate the emperor of Rome, Marco Aurelius.

Epictetus said that there are 2 types of things, those that depend on us and those that do not depend on us and that happiness consisted in learning to differentiate them. Just as there is no reason to cry for a rain, because it does not depend on you if water falls from the sky or not, there is no reason to waste energy stressing about what others say, think or do because their free will is not in our power. Likewise, we must focus all our energy on our actions, thoughts and ideas.

Of all the philosophical branches, Stoicism is my favorite, because it is applicable to everyday life and its primary objective is to achieve happiness and wisdom, dispensing with comforts, material goods and fortune as something optional. Stoicism also seeks to help us stand firm in the face of adversity and achieve emotional control.

Bushido

"I have no enemies, I make carelessness my enemy." (Bushido)

When my karate training introduced me to bushido which is "The Way of the Warrior" in Japan, the samurai made this way their lifestyle and code of ethics. Bushido would be influenced by Buddhism (Zen), Confucianism and Shintoism. Bushido is based on the 7 principles: Gi (Honesty and justice) Yu (Heroic courage) Jin (Compassion) Rei (Courtesy) Meyo (Honour) Makoto (Absolute sincerity) Chugo (Duty and loyalty).

These teachings were given to me in the dojo and helped me learn to be more honest, to stand up when others are afraid to stand up, to help others as much as possible by taking advantage of every opportunity, to reflect on the decisions I make and take responsibility for them, to be courteous even to one who has been rude and considers my enemy, to tell the truth and act in such a way that I can tell the truth about how he acted. The path of the warrior is NOT reduced to the "fights" we have, it is about life itself. "I have no castle, I make my castle my immovable mind." (Samurai Creed)

Karate-Do

"The ultimate goal of karate does not lie in victory or defeat, but in the improvement of character and personality." (Gichin Funakoshi)

Kara means: Empty, Te means: Hand, and Do means: Way. . Karate-Do translates to “the path of the empty hand”. Karate, rather than being a martial art, or being considered a self-defense methodology or competitive sport, is primarily a way of thinking, a philosophy and a lifestyle.

The philosophy of karate-Do is influenced by Buddhism (Zen), Confucianism, Taoism, Shintoism and Bushido. We do not practice karate to be better than others or to fight stronger, we practice karate to be better people and to find a balance that makes us happy.

We achieve this through meditation and physical training where we learn to dominate the mind and body to achieve a state of serenity and internal peace. A good way to start understanding the philosophy of karate is with the Dojo Kun or “Precepts of the Dojo”:

  1. Strive for perfection of character.
  2. Defend the paths of truth.
  3. Promote the spirit of effort.
  4. Honor the principles of etiquette.
  5. Refrain from violent behavior

My values

Memento Mori

Del Latín. (“recuerda que vas a morir” Aprovecha tu tiempo.)

It is important to appreciate every moment, enjoy with our loved ones while they are with us and learn to savor every drop of water, because it may be the last. “Memento Mori” It is a phrase that the ancient Stoic philosophers used to remember their mortality, give greater meaning to their lives and make a wiser use of their time. Throughout my life I have seen how my friends spend months or even years spending their time on things that do NOT make them happy or benefit them. They live with fears, insecurities and postpone what is important.

They act like we can go to the store to “buy some extra time” when in fact, we can't. Because of this, I try to remind myself daily that I will eventually die. This event can be today, tomorrow or 20 years from now. No matter when, that's out of my control. Therefore, it is necessary that I make wise use of my time and enjoy every moment of my life, do not hold a grudge against anyone and make sure that I do everything that my heart desires to do. I can't escape death, but I can escape the fear of it.

Karate Do ━━

I am a second Dan black belt in Shotokan Karate-Do with +10 years of experience practicing “The Path of the empty hand”.

Karate has always been a big part of my life. Specifically, it has been part of my physical and philosophical training, in values, but above all as a whole human being.

All thanks to the senseis Oswald Mata, René, William, Eloy, Sunú and Shihan Patrick Jean-Claude Richoux. Without them, I would not be who I am today.

Karate has given me the strength to face the challenges of my life and has allowed me not only to grow as an athlete but as an individual.

I have been part of the Salvadoran national karate team, I have participated in international competitions and I have given karate classes to children as part of my training.

Karate is one of my greatest passions because of everything that surrounds it, because of the valuable teachings of my senseis and because of the bonds I have formed with other practitioners along this path.

I love manga and anime

I have always been a fan of anime, manga and Japanese culture. It has really influenced the way I am a lot. My three favorite manga are One Punch Man, Hajime No Ippo, and Vagabond. I'm really a fan of the shonen and action genre, but most of all, I love a good fighting anime.

Calisthenics

The word "calisthenics" comes from the Greek words "Kallos" (That means means Beuty) and "sthenos" (that means strength).

My cousin introduced me to the discipline of calisthenics with a book called "Convict Conditioning." I used to get together with my friends in the park to train every Sunday
